Grey muzzles

IMG_8199

My big, beautiful black dog’s muzzle is going grey!

My Nemo’s muzzle is gone nearly all silver. He was right up near the pillow when I took this picture and I am surprised it came out in focus. He usually makes the effort to sneak up next to me not so much to cuddle the way Rico does, but because he wants something he doesn’t have thumbs to get. Dogs have no guile.

The big guy is five and a half years old now. I still remember the day he was born, when the Puppy Fairy delivered nine puppies to Daisy, the pregnant dog I had rescued from the neighbor next door. We won’t go there right now. This is about happy stuff and we did find a good home for Daisy.

Nemo grew up with not one, but two nanny dogs, the first being Emily the Great Pyrenees who passed away when Nemo was just six months old and the second being Sadie, the Yellow Lab who just recently passed away. He has lived with cats and chickens his entire life as well as with Sparky, his elder dog brother by two years. Nemo’s younger dog brother would be Rico, who is just over three years old. Phoofie has been a mainstay and nemesis for Nemo’s entire life so far. Of course, at eleven years old, the cat pretty much just naps all day and ignores the dogs anyway.

When I got sick last year, the lying around staring at the ceiling activity level I have had makes me appreciate that my dogs are here providing in-home dog therapy the way they do. When I get my hair to grow back, I’m not even going to complain about it being all grey any more. At this point, I will be satisfied to simply have hair.

My shiny, black puppy has grown to 140lbs at his heaviest, 125lbs when he’s at his best weight, and has acquired quite a few silver threads on his schnozzola. Grey hairs signify life lived, history made, time spent. Nobody will ever love you the way your dog does.

Day 16: Grey muzzles are beautiful.

Nemo and his BDF

Here is Nemo playing with his BDF (best dog friend), Bayley. That’s Sparky in the background staying out of the way so he doesn’t get stepped on. I just love this picture!

Sparky goes to the dog beach

Been taking Nemo to the dog beach at Honeymoon Island State Park. He loves it. Decided to try taking Mr. Prissy himself to see if he likes the beach as much as the ‘Mo does. He coped pretty well….

Sparky’s turn at the dog beach

….. the bath getting all the sand and salt off of him afterward, he didn’t like so much. But while he was there, he enjoyed himself as this picture of him actually smiling proves! 😀

Ask Sister Mary Martha

It’s been a long week here. Since last week’s drenching by Ida flooded a lot of local areas, the schools were closed the balance of the week, again on Monday this week and late start on Tuesday. Since the teachers lost nearly a week of instructional time, there was no way anybody was calling in sick. Good for them, bad for me, the substitute teacher who doesn’t get paid unless I work.

So I’m beyond bored at home this week, having redecorated Sparky’s room, vaccuumed the house, done laundry, blah, blah, blah. Might make peanut butter cookies later since when I checked my email this morning, one of the daily recipes in my inbox was for chocolate & peanut butter pie, which after printing that out, I then found the Jif recipe for the cookies. I actually have the ingredients in the pantry for that, so it’s a possibility this afternoon. If I ever get my butt up away from the computer.

Oh, yes. The computer, on dial-up that keeps dropping on me, running so slow and draggy we actually went out and bought a new one last weekend, hooked it up and internet still ran like crap on dial-up at all of 28.8 or 26.4 kbs so we packed it back up and returned it to Wal-Mart. Didn’t want Windows 7 anyway. Since they took away Outlook that my hubs uses and Moviemaker that I use, why should I stick with Windows?? We’re saving up for a Mac. So, since it’s so aggravating to be online, why in the world am I still on the computer today, you ask?

Because I found a blog that has had me in stitches more often than not and made me forget about the clock, which for such as week as this, is nothing short of wonderful. I started off with my weekly visit to They Look Like Trees to cheer for the success of the one-year old Church Relevant plant down in New Bern, NC. Then I was off to visit the Ironic Catholic to see how she was coming along with her newest baby. Then I clicked one of her links to check out another blog, then I think another, and I wound up on Sister Mary Martha’s blog.

And that is where I have spent the last few hours, even bringing my lunch in here to eat while reading some of her hysterical recounts of daily life as an older nun living in the world but not of it outside of Los Angeles. If she can make it there, she can make it anywhere, right? She also answers readers questions about Catholic stuff. I wish I had had her for CCD! Her wisdom and matter of fact, straight forward and honest narratives coupled with a sense of humor that reminds me of a combination of my Gramma, my best friend and a few priests I know has gotten me hooked.

My new favourite blog: Ask Sister Mary Martha. Well worth your time to visit. And be a pal and order your next patron saint medal from their shop online.

Sparky loves his veggies

Whilst processing my latest batch of garden veggies, Sparky kept bugging me for pieces of cucumber. He won’t eat raw tomatoes, peppers or onions, but cooked together as spaghetti sauce, he snarfs ’em up. He’s quite particular about his food choices and how they should be prepared for his delicate little gourmet self.
Been trying lately to find the spiritual applications in the smallest things around the house, since that’s where I’m puttzing around most lately. No point in being aggitated, frustrated or just bored because I know God uses all things to teach us what He wants us to know. Not sure what the sp-app would be for this. Maybe that our bodies are the temple for the Holy Spirit’s indwelling, so we should take care of our physical bodies by eating right? Because even the dog eats healthy?
Anyone else got a sp-app that’s appropriate he
